Systematic Literature Review: The Role of Islamic Religious Education in Character Formation

Abstract


This study examines problems in learning the Qur’an and Hadith among eighth-grade students at Baharuddin Modern Islamic Boarding School. Preliminary observations revealed that some students were unable to read, pronounce, write, and understand the meanings of the Qur’an and Hadith properly. In addition, learning outcomes in the Qur’an and Hadith subject showed that several students had not achieved the competency standards set by the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The study aims to identify the learning problems faced by eighth-grade students and to analyze the efforts made by teachers to address these problems. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed interactively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the main learning problems include low reading and writing abilities of Qur’anic verses, difficulties in memorizing verses and hadiths, an unconducive classroom atmosphere, and limited learning support facilities. To overcome these problems, teachers applied repetition methods, provided learning motivation, used individual approaches for struggling students, and continuously encouraged students to be more active and consistent in learning.
